Saber listened to her, his mood becoming more and more depressed as he listened. Nicole's gone...? He glared at her when she finished. "Nicole is NOT dead!" He hissed. "YOU'RE LYING! You're talking about a totally different Nicole. Nicole is alive and fine somewhere." Riley cleared her throat, now glaring daggers at Saber. "You do NOT talk to my sister like that." She said, coldly. "Nicole's dead. Her name was Nicole Elizabeth Sowells. She talked about a Saber Tod Wenzel a lot. With your exact description. Are you trying to say that there's some other Nicole and Saber out there with the same description?! No, Saber. She's dead." Transparent tears were falling down her face, but she wiped them away quickly. Saber was silent, taking all of this in. He thought it over for a moment, trying to accept that... The only best friend he ever had, the only one he cared for. Was dead. The demi-god started tearing. "Kay." He said. He got up, avoiding all their gazes, and left. He didn't know where he was going, and didn't care. He wanted to be alone. Finally he'd found a place, where he assumed he wouldn't be disturbed. Tears silently flowed down his cheeks on the way, and he sat down, his crying becoming slightly more audible. Not too loud, of course. Just enough to hopefully not be noticed. She can't be dead... He pulled his knees close, and rested his head on them. Not Nicole... they're lying... they're LYING... Saber'd never lost anyone close to him, so he never knew how it felt. He never knew it'd sting this bad...

Mary-Kate tried to shrug off the extreme sadness she was feeling. She stood up. "I'd better go find him before he gets jumped by another monster", she murmered, feeling her position as leader of the Quest kick in.
It didn't take long to find the boy. She knew for sure it was him when she heard the sounds of faint crying. There he was, sitting with his back against a brick wall, crying silently. The blonde teenager sat down beside him without a word, pulling her legs close to her similar to the way Saber was sitting.
Mary-Kate let out a sigh. "I know it's tough, Saber. I miss her too. Everyday. I haven't been on a Quest since Nicole died. Until now. Do you know how much courage it took just to trust myself again? Alot Saber. We both miss her. At least you aren't directly responsible for her death. That's got to help, right?" the girl let out a sigh and let a frown sink over her face. "It's tough getting along without Nicole. Aside from Riley, she was the first real friend I had too."
She reached over and gave the boy a deep hug. "I just want you to know we're in the same boat. You're not alone."

Saber was about to lash at her, to tell her to go away, but she was talking before he could even say anything. She sympathized with him, and pulled him into a hug. He was still for a moment, doing nothing, before he returned the hug. "Okay..." He said weakly. Saber rarely cried. He couldn't even remember the last time he cried. "I'm sure it wasn't your fault, even if you think it is... don't blame yourself..." He hugged her tighter, and didn't want to let go. "I've missed her for so long... and now she's gone..."

Mary-Kate sat, still in the hug. She heard what the boy said, and it made her feel even worse about Nicole dying. "I know..", she whispered in the most soothing voice she could muster. "I miss her too. But she would've wanted you to move on, ya know? I can't imagine what my life would've been like without her. I might've been lonley my entire life. But Nicole showed me that you have to make new friends whenever you can. That's why I became friends with Ari. Maybe Nicole would've wanted the same for you. Maybe that's why you became friends with me... and Riley and Ari", she added the last bit quickly and not without a faint blush.
She gave a deep sigh and continued to hug the boy. To anyone passing by, the two probably looking like an odd sight. But at that particular moment, Mary-Kate didn't care.

Saber was quiet again, and didn't even bother to think about his next words. "Guess I know why I thought your eyes were so pretty... you have the same eyes..." He would've blushed if his cheeks weren't already red from crying. "And I guess you look kind of similar... so..." The boy changed the subject. "You are caring, whether you'd like to admit it or not..." He said, his smile really faint. He still continued to hug her. Even when he like (or loved) Nicole, he had a tendency to flirt with girls a lot. The teenager loved the attention, but now... with Nicole gone, he felt like a jerk. He should have asked her out when he had the chance. I'm such a loser. A wimp. He thought. He might never flirt with another girl again...

Mary-Kate sat and continued to hug the boy as she whispered about the similarities between her and Nicole's eyes. Her cheeks turned red, but she managed a very soft chuckle. "Appearently it's a child of Athena thing", she said quietly.
She shook her head softly. "I guess. Every once in awhile." In all honesty, the blonde had never seen herself as caring. She gave a small smirk and whispered, "Be warned. Just because you've only seen the soft side of me doesn't mean that there aren't any other sides of me."

"I guess..." He sighed softly. "And okay... I believe you..." He might have laughed a little, but he was too upset for any emotion relevant to joy. "Just don't let the soft side go away for now... I don't want to see any other sides right now..." Still holding her close, he looked into her eyes. That bright hyper flame that was almost always visible had died. This was obviously not the same obnoxious boy who'd come into camp. The one who'd acted all tall and mighty... appeared so small and weak now, with tears streaming down his face. "Do you think I'll be able to go with you... you know... for the mission? Because right now... I'm not exactly... well..." The boy sighed. Memories were flooding back, happy memories of him and Nicole together, sad memories, good memories, bad memories... everything he could remember.
And no more memories would be made with her again.

Mary-Kate looked Saber straight in the eye and retreated a little. She sat cross legged right in front of the boys, their eyes still connecting.
"Look Saber. You'll be ok. I know it hurts, but you'll be fine. We can't do the mission without you at this point. You /have/ to come. I'm not giving you an option. I know loosing Nicole hurts, but it's not like you've seen her for years. You can function independently. I promise. I remember my first Arena practice after Nicole died. I was so bitter I slaughtered all the dummies just for being there. Almost killed a few Campers, too. I was so mad. But I felt better afterward. So..." The blonde stood up, knife in hand, and put an arrogant smirk on her face, "I challenge you to a battle. Right now. You'll feel better. And you don't want me to MAKE you fight, do you?"
The blonde stood, arms crossed and an arrogant smirk on her face, and waited for the boy. An internal was was occurring inside of her on whether she would let him win or not.

Saber watched her get up, knife in hand, with an arrogant little smirk. How could the emotion of a situation change so simply? He sighed, tears still falling down his cheeks. "No, Mary-Kate. I won't feel better. I can't fight. I just can't." The boy turned to the earth, fallen, helpless, weak. Thoughts of Nicole fluttered about in his mind, when finally his own little voice came to nag him. What kind of hero are you?! True heroes don't just give up and let everybody die just because their best friend dies! They cry a little, but they get up and keep fighting! There's no room for weakness in the life of a demi-god, Saber! You know that! You can't just stop like this in battle! Now get over it, and get up and fight! You'll cry over her later! He sighed again, wiping his tears away quickly. He stood up, frown still evident, but turned it into an arrogant smirk to match hers. "Forget everything I just said!" Saber took out his kunai, the flame returning slowly to his eyes. "I accept your challenge!"
