Description: Standing at 5'4" (I'M TALLER THAN HIM MWAHAHAHAHAHA okay I'm done), Derek is in good shape, despite not being very fit in the past. Training and battles have shaped him up to be fit for battle, even if he's not so good at it sometimes. His skin is scar-free, it's included in his little beauty heritage package. Derek has very soft hair, with a sort of unique auburn color that manages to look lovely no matter what the situation. If anyone tries to mess it up, it goes back to normal. He also has beautiful gray-blue eyes, and they make him look really adorable.
Personality: Derek is a really shy demi-god. He stands out from his siblings, who are very social and love to flirt. He tends to avoid people, especially girls, (especially pretty girls,) since he tends to be even shyer around them. However, once he's warmed up to someone (*COUGH*BEX*COUGH*>>), he's gentle, sweet, and protective. He's not one to be ticked off easily, nor does he really explode when he is mad. Derek is sensitive, but tries not to show it. Despite how hard he tries, he can never focus in battle. He always feels that, maybe he's not battling right, everyone's critiquing him, and if the enemy makes a degrading comment, that'll stab him emotionally, and possibly, physically, as suddenly, he won't be able to battle properly.
History: From a baby, Derek was pretty much left alone. He wasn't wanted by his father, however, his father wasn't a horrible man. He took care of him, in a sense- fed him when he was hungry, made him better when he was sick. He never yelled or scolded Derek, or told him what to do. Yet, he never paid real attention to Derek, either, and would almost always leave him home alone. He and Derek rarely talked, and they never bonded. As soon as his father was informed of Camp Half-Blood, Rick Merick was never to be seen again.
However, before Camp Half-Blood, there was school life. He had one friend, Sara, who was the prettiest girl in school. They were good friends, he didn't have a crush on her or anything. He was bullied often for being an outcast, made fun of since his only friend was a girl. It got worse, when Sara admitted to having a crush on him. The guys at his school were very jealous, and Derek saw no end to the torture, until Camp Half-Blood...
... which was the beginning of new torture! His siblings mocked him for being anti-social and not being a flirt, and would often try to get him to ask any of the girls at Camp out. It never worked, of course, as Derek would tend to freeze and stammer, unsure of what to say. They gave up, eventually, but he is still teased for his odd personality.
Aside from being mocked, now he had to train. Derek was never a fighter. Even when he was bullied (and he learned, later on, some of those bullies were actually "monsters"), he rarely fought back unless he was being killed. After some training, though, he learned he wasn't bad- he remembered some of the moves his enemies used on him, and made them his own. Still, he wasn't perfect- often in real battle, he would freeze up, his butt being saved by one of his annoying half siblings, who would proceed to inform the whole camp of his cowardliness in battle.
Now, Derek spends most of his time daydreaming, reading, drawing, or, when no one's around, training. And that's about it.
